What does $3000.00 get you

Friday, January 27, 2012  |  Client Resources

OK let’s revisit my son’s wedding last year in July initial cost $3000.00

I paid $3000 for a photographer and assistant, naturally me being a photographer I can do all the work.  We met the photographer ( who I recommended) for over 2 hours, 2 months before the wedding to give her the details.

What we received was:

            Digital Files 4000 of them

Cannot even get a full length of the couple

My wife could not even order a 5x7 of her family they were so bad

A picture of my son with his grandparents and no bride

Great pictures of the cake and centerpieces

Not 1 good picture of the groom and groomsmen

A totally disorganized formal photo session adding to the stress of the day

Now what I have to do

We had to reshoot the pictures with the couple getting dressed again

Tux rental added expense, dry cleaning of bridal gown added expense

            Hair and makeup added  expense

            Bouquet extra expense

Processing time = money

I have to do all the image editing – almost 2 days

            Color correcting 1 ½ days

Order and pay for all the proofs and proof box

Design their album – 3-4 days

Post production on wedding album – approx 1 week

Pay for the album – just like everyone else

Why am I writing this.   I am getting many inquiries where photography budgets are just so unrealistic, no matter who is making the decision.  Here is proof I paid out of pocket $3000.00 and the costs are not done yet and you cannot put a price on disappointment.  Please do yourself a favor – get all the decision makers, go out and look, and compare please do not go by a price quoted by voice or email – you have to compare.

Now my daughter is getting married in May – now are we making the same mistake again – hell no!
